Dot NAME Domains

Started in 2001, the .NAME top-level domain extension is the sole TLD meant for personal web pages only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other designations people are famous by. At first, solely third-level registrations were permitted, so if you desired to acquire john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level domain names remained working.
